FAQs
What types of fireplaces does Escea have?
Escea's full range is available in New Zealand – gas, wood, and electric fireplaces for indoors, plus a range of outdoor fireplaces. Across those fuel types, you'll find inbuilt, retrofittable, and freestanding models, in styles ranging from classic and traditional through to linear and multi-sided options.
How early should a fireplace be considered in the design process?
Ideally, at concept stage. Early coordination allows fluing, clearances, and integration with structure and services to be resolved upfront, avoiding constraints later.
Escea's Architectural Advisory team can assist from early design through to installation.
What materials can I surround an indoor gas fireplace with?
Because all Escea indoor gas fireplaces are Zero Clearance rated, the wall linings around the fireplace stay cool enough to allow a wide range of surround materials. You can still use traditional finishes like brick, stone, or tiles — but what’s really unique is that you can also use combustible materials, such as timber and plasterboard, and even integrate the fireplace into cabinetry or joinery, depending on the look you want to achieve.
Zero Clearance gives you far greater design freedom and allows the fireplace to sit seamlessly within your chosen wall finish for a clean, modern aesthetic.
For any specific material or installation considerations, always refer to the product’s installation manual or speak with your local Escea retailer.
What is the maximum flue length for an Escea gas fireplace?
Escea’s gas fireplace flue systems can run up to 40 metres, including flexible flue sections, allowing for greater freedom in fireplace placement — particularly in multi-residential and complex architectural projects.
Flue configurations can vary depending on the model and installation, so we recommend speaking with our Architectural Advisory team for project-specific guidance
Can an outdoor fireplace be attached to the house?
Yes. Outdoor gas fireplaces can be installed against or integrated into an external wall, making them well suited to built-in outdoor living spaces. Outdoor wood fireplaces can also be installed in or against a structure, however they must follow specific installation guidelines to ensure safe operation, and may require consent.
In all cases, it’s important to follow manufacturer instructions and check local building requirements before installation.
Where are Escea fireplaces made?
Every Escea fireplace is designed and manufactured at our headquarters in Dunedin, New Zealand. Founded in 2002, Escea is proudly locally owned and operated.
